Vacation Rental Cleaning Checklist

Entry Procedures
  • Verify door codes, locks, and entry access functionality.
  • Remove all trash and perishables from the unit.
  • Start laundry or dishwasher where applicable.
  • Document and report any visible maintenance issues.
Bedrooms
  • Strip all bedding and stage linens for laundering.
  • Inspect and replace mattress and pillow protectors as needed.
  • Make beds with hotel-grade presentation.
  • Dust nightstands, lamps, décor, headboards, and surfaces.
  • Sanitize high-touch areas such as switches and door hardware.
  • Check closets and drawers for left-behind items and organize.
  • Vacuum, sweep, or mop bedroom flooring.
Bathrooms
  • Sanitize tub/shower, toilet, sinks, counters, and fixtures.
  • Clean mirrors and any glass surfaces to a streak-free finish.
  • Replace towel sets and bathmat according to standards.
  • Empty bathroom trash and replace liners.
  • Restock standard amenities:
    • soap
    • dish soap
    • shampoo & conditioner
    • lotion
    • tissue
    • toilet paper
Kitchen
  • Sanitize countertops, cabinet fronts, and appliance exteriors.
  • Appliance exteriors & interiors cleaned (fridge, microwave, stove, dishwasher)
  • Unload dishwasher and neatly organize items in cabinets and drawers.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen flooring.
  • Restock standard amenities:
    • paper towels
    • dish soap
    • sponge
    • dishwasher pods
    • trash liners
    • laundry pods
Living Areas
  • Dust all furniture, décor, lamps, frames, and surfaces.
  • Sanitize high-touch areas including remotes, door handles, and light switches.
  • Vacuum upholstery and under cushions.
  • Refresh and properly stage sleeper sofa when used.
  • Clean interior glass and patio doors, including tracks.
  • Sweep, vacuum, or mop flooring as appropriate.
  • Stage décor and pillows in a consistent, standardized layout.
  • Balcony and patios are swept, debris removed, and necessary wipe down and staging of furniture consistently.
Linens
  • Sort used linens for laundering and prepare for vendor pickup.
  • Check thermostat and lighting settings.
  • Remove stained or damaged linens and replace from par stock.
  • Maintain organized linen storage with proper par levels.
Final Walkthrough
  • Confirm cleaning and staging meet readiness standards.
  • Check thermostat and lighting settings.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are secured.
  • Capture and submit photo documentation where required.
